February Favourites

I'm not really sure where February has gone, it feels like I've blinked and its over but hopefully March brings with it some sunshine and puts a stop to this endless rain! February is one of my favourite months: its my birthday which means lots of wine, cake and time off work! I got to spend a weekend with my favourite people and a much needed week at home seeing the family. My blog reached 100 followers which is incredible and I can't thank you all enough for your support! As the month of love its safe to say there are a lot of products I've fallen for this month and here are my top picks for the month.

Bioderma was a recent purchase after my L'Oreal Micellar Solution ran out (a lot quicker than I anticipated) so I opted to trial something different. I only purchased a 250ml bottle and I've used this everyday since the start of the month and I still have over half a bottle left! This stuff is incredible, there was no oily residue left like the L'Oreal offering and the bottle allows for easier pouring so there isn't as much product wastage. I find this removes my make up with minimal effort, just a quick swipe and my skin is clear ready for a cleanse. Its safe to say I will be repurchasing this for years to come!

Originally I received a sample of the POREfessional in my January birchbox and immediately fell in love with this primer. With its velvet smooth finish and texture, this left my make up looking flawless and photo ready! I haven't tried this on the top of foundation as I find that a bit of a strange idea but I've loved using this underneath to achieve the flawless finish. Luckily I received a full size of this for my birthday in the Benefit POREfect kit but I would say this is definitely worth the price tag.

I recently reviewed the Revlon Highlighting Palette but this had to make an appearance in my monthly favourites. I have literally used this everyday since I bought it. I love how easy the colour is to build up and the overall finish of the product is not too sheer or glittery. I've been using my Real Techniques Stippling Brush to build up the colour and I've found one swish is enough to leave my cheeks with the bronzed glow I love. I will 100% be purchasing the Rose Glow palette come payday.

Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation is an old favourite which I've recently rekindled my romance with. To be perfectly honest I don't know why I ever stopped using this foundation I love it so much. Its easy to build up and the coverage is light to medium depending how thin you apply with the finish being a dewy, radiant glow. I've been using my Real Techniques Buffing Brush from the core collection set to buff in the product for maximum coverage. This remains my favourite foundation of all time with such a natural finish it leaves my skin looking incredibly flawless.

Finally the Revlon Colourburst Matte Balms which I've had a bit of a love affair with since they were released. With only Unapologetic and Mischievous missing from my collection, its safe to say I am obsessed with these. They are so pigmented and wearable and for a clumsy oaf like me they are a dream to apply. I love the fresh, minty scent they carry and the matte finish is just spot on. Revlon have seriously hit the nail on the head with these! My favourites at the moment have to be Elusive and Sultry - both quite pinky shades which are so so gorgeous on!

Revlon Highlighting Palette in Bronze Glow

I've never really been a big blusher wearer and up until about a month ago I didn't actually own any blusher's at all...crazy I know! For years I've sworn by the Natural Collection Sun Tint Bronzing Powder in Golden Glow which retails for the bargain price of £1.99. As I was only using this for a light dusting over my cheeks, I could never justify spending silly amounts on a product which would basically achieve the same results.

Now fast forward a few years and after delving into the world of beauty for the last months, I can now say I have stepped out of my comfort zone of the sacred £1.99 bronzer and experimented a bit more. I saw the Revlon Highlighting Palette popping up around the blogasphere as a dupe for the Bobbi Brown Shimmer Bricks and immediately dismissed them. However, after stumbling across them in Boots I fell in love with the gorgeous Bronze Glow palette which I picked up on one of those cheeky 3 for 2 offers boots always seem to lure me in with!!

The palette comes in two different shades 'Rose Glow' and 'Bronze Glow' each containing 5 shimmery shades to blend. They provide natural colour highlights and a soft healthy glow. The pigmentation of the colours in the palette is wonderful and I find one swirl is just enough to create the perfect sun kissed glow for my complexion. I was a bit worried that this was going to look really glittery on my face but I find the formula has just enough shimmer so when blended leaves a sheer, natural flush to the cheeks perfect for everyday! These are such good value at only £8.99, they have a high-end feel to them and have firmly become a daily essential in my make up routine.

I will definitely be picking up the Rose Glow palette, will you be trying them out?

Beauty Boxes: February Edition

Now I use to be a loyal beauty box customer but in the recent months I've started becoming very disappointed with the contents of my boxes, so reluctantly, I've cancelled some of my subscriptions and decided to keep only one. As this is the last month I will be receiving all 4 boxes, I wanted to do a post comparing them and  show you what I got in each one. The subscriptions I currently have are Glossybox, BirchboxLove Me Beauty and You Beauty Discovery. Some of you may have heard of these, some of you may not, but let's get right to it.

Glossybox is probably the most well known beauty box which is £12.95 a month including postage. This is the first monthly subscription I signed up for after hearing so much hype surrounding the box, but I have to say my overall experience hasn't been that cost worthy. I purchased a six month subscription which has just expired and I have just cancelled after receiving a very disappointing January box and a uninspiring February box. I don't want to list loads of negatives because the box does have some good quality products inside sometimes (apart from January), but I haven't had much luck with products I have personally received.

Each month five samples are sent to you following a theme, with February's theme being a Be Mine Valentine Edition. Inside my box I received:

Maybelline Big Eyes Mascara (Full Size)
Nougat London: Sparkling Body Shimmer (100ml)
Ciate London Paint Pot: Pocket Money (Full Size)
Giovanni Eco Chic Haircare Sample (2x7.4ml, 1x10.35ml)
Eldora Handmade Lashes B201
Lindt Lindor Treat Bar

I have been wanting to try the mascara for a while now and been deciding whether to buy it or not so I was happy to find this in my box. I prefer the original falsies, but I like that there is a smaller brush for lower lash application. This is probably the only product I will use in the box sadly. The body shimmer reminds me of my teenage days and will definitely not be needed in my collection, along with the eyelashes which look very fake and plastic which I do not like. The nail polish is a nice colour but doesn't really show up against my skin tone so I shall be passing this on and the haircare samples are quite small so I don't think they even hold one application for my long locks. The Lindt bar was a nice addition and these are my current favs so I added this to my ever growing stash. Overall, I wouldn't recommend glossy box, I think there are similar companies offering better quality products for the same price.

Next up is Birchbox which I have only been subscribed to for a few months, but after hearing so many good reviews I decided to try this out to compare to Glossybox. Overall I am very happy and excited about the products I've received this month. Again the subscription is £12.95 a month including postage with a selection of 4 or 5 products. There is a mixture of full size and sample products and a lifestyle product included inside each box. This month I received:

Urbanveda Radiance Exfoliating Facial Polish Sample (20ml)
Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner Mini (1.2g)
Gilchrist & Soames Shower Gel Sample (45ml)
Green & Black's Dark Chocolate Sample
Beauty Protector Protect & Oil Sample
Leighton Denny Instant Abstract Top Coat (Full Size)

I have to say this is my least exciting box I have received from them but nearly all the products will be welcome in my collection. I love how small and compact the eye liner is making it so easy to glide on and carry around with me, a welcome addition to my everyday make up routine. The shower gel smells very luxurious and expensive and will be perfect for short breaks away. The facial polish contains such natural ingredients and very fine beads which are perfect for me as I find some products too harsh on my skin but this is very brightening and refreshing with a lovely floral smell. I have never tried a hair oil before although I have wanted to so I am intrigued to try this out next time I have the night off. I also really like the nail polish which I didn't think I would, I do not have anything like this already in my collection so I look forward to using this for a full manicure.

Love Me Beauty is another monthly subscription priced at £12.95 a month where a boutique of three different menus is released each month and you can chose between one of the three boxes to receive, with a slight difference in each. I have been subscribed for several months now and overall found each box is different to the last and contains a good variety of different products to try out, some which have become my all time favourites. This month I chose Valentine's Day Edition which contained:

Percy & Reed No-Fuss Flawless Dry Conditioner (150ml)
Inner Me Beautify Me Vitamin Complex (28 Capsules)
Bakewell Soap Company Multi-Purpose Pocket Balm (25g)
La Claree Smooth Day Face Care (7ml)
Mystery Product

I was very happy with the contents of this months box especially the Percy & Reed product! I already use some of their products and although I have never used a dry conditioner before I doubt I will be disappointed by this brand. The smooth day face cream is very lightweight and airy perfect for allowing skin to breathe and perfectly fitting into my daily routine. The multi-purpose pocket balm is in 'May change' which is a gorgeous fruit, summery smell. I have only used this on the lips and it is so hydrating and leaves my lips so soft, hopefully it has the same effects on my hands and body. I am sceptical about taking supplements and so want to do some research before I take the capsules, but these are vitamins for skin, hair and nails containing seven different nutrients. Finally this month each box contained a hero product which was featured in a previous box and mine was the Models Own nail polish in Prussian Blue. A very deep blue colour which I love, although I already have one from a previous box and can't see me getting through two full sized bottles!

Finally, is the You Beauty Discovery subscription service which is the cheapest at £6.95 a month. This subscription is slightly different where each month a theme is chosen with a variety of products selected to reflect this theme. You then chose two products out of the list to receive, along with two small extras each month. I often find products I receive are unsuitable for my skin tone or just do not suit me or do nothing for me, so I like the idea of selecting which products to receive. This month the theme was red carpet glamour with a variety of products including: Mavala Nail Polish, Teez Mascara or Eye Liner, Jurlique Moisturising Cream, Vintage Company Eyeshadow Brush, Stila Lip Glaze, Helenere lifting serum, Pixi Primer and Glamglow exfoliater.

After much deliberation I picked my two products and waited for my little package to arrive. Inside my box I received:

Pixi Flawless & Poreless Primer (12ml)
GlamGlow Youthmud Tinglexfoliate Treatment (15g)
Beyond Dark Moments of Pleasure 35g
Charles Worthington Instant Amplifying Volume Treatment Sample

Its safe to say the chocs were pretty much gone within seconds and they were so so good! I'm not very keen on dark chocolate but these had a hint of orange and were very tasty. I was sceptical about the Charles Worthington sample as I have very long hair and so normally samples are not enough for me but this is quite a generous sized sample with a £2 off voucher inside... bonus! The primer is a creamy consistency which is very lightweight and slightly pink tinted. I haven't actually tried this yet, only swatched it but I am looking around for a cheaper alternative to the POREfessional primer so this could be a contender. Finally the Glam Glow mud treatment which I also haven't tried but is described to leave complexion revived and glowing so I look forward to seeing if the claims are true.

What are your thoughts on your February boxes?
