I still can’t quite believe it’s 2018 already… where has the last year gone? Last year I set myself 17 goals for the year ahead and to be honest this was definitely too many. I didn’t manage to do half the things I wanted but I did manage to fall in love with myself for the first time in my life, I listened to my body and took time off when I needed it and most importantly, I spent it surrounded by those that mean the most to me. I plan to do exactly the same for 2018 but focusing more time for self-care, for adventures, for following my dreams and for living in the moment. It’s so important to log off social media and take time out to enjoy the little moments and in today’s society this is something we all seem to forget. I’ve set myself some goals for the year ahead that will help me develop into the best version of myself I can possibly be.
I feel like in the last half of 2017 I’ve finally found my blog mojo and I’ve started creating content which I absolutely love. This was the first year in 6 years that I had time off over Christmas, and after several days of relaxing and being a complete sloth, I’m finishing my time off with a fresh outlook for my blog and tons of ideas I cannot wait to put into action.
I’ve finally taken the plunge and my blog is currently going through its migration into WordPress which is something I have been considering for about a year now. For how I want my blog to look and for the content I want to create I feel that blogger is quite restricted so when I saw Pipdig had 40% off the service I jumped at the opportunity. I cannot wait for it all to be done to have a play around with everything so watch this space for a new layout heading your way very soon.
I also want to start interacting more on other people’s blogs. I started this morning by spending an hour catching up on some of my favourite blogs and leaving comments as this is something I use to do all the time but I recently just never made any time for it. As well as spending more time reading books I want to spend a couple of hours every week reading my favourite blogs.
As some of you may or may not know back in April I left my job as Assistant Manager at a restaurant and started in an office as a Junior Order Processing Clerk. This was a big step for me but ultimately I had decided that I didn’t want to become a General Manager for a chain and so continuing up the ladder was pretty pointless. I knew for a while that I didn’t want to stay in the restaurant trade anymore but I was far too scared to leave and start a new job until a new manager came along and let’s just say we didn’t see eye to eye on a couple of things. If anything I owe her a thank you for showing me I have the ability and confidence to take control of my life and circumstances, and discovering strength I did not realise I had.
Although I love the hours of working in a office, the job itself isn’t very fulfilling and its completely the opposite to the fast paced environment I am use to. This year I need to find a new challenge to focus on, to really get my teeth into and hopefully to develop into a career further along the line.
As you may have seen last year I decided to start the transition into cruelty free beauty. This is a decision I had been contemplating for a while and to be honest I don’t know why I haven’t done it sooner. After spending several months researching I feel like I have learnt a lot surrounding this issue and I am still so shocked and surprised about how many brands still commission or allow animal testing on their behalf. I have had a massive clear-out of everything unused from brands who aren’t CF and I’ve started using up any open bits and pieces ready to start finding alternatives.
My goal is to be completely CF in terms of my make up, skincare and haircare by the end of 2018. Its a big challenge but by making one or two changes each month and by using up little bits and pieces I definitely think this is an achievable goal. I will of course be updating my blog with my progress and with any new products recommendations which I find on my journey.
Reading is one of my favourite hobbies and the last year I have really enjoyed trading my aimlessly scrolling through social media for a book instead. I read some incredible books, and some not so great, but I am excited to read more in the coming year. I recently signed up to Goodreads and I set myself a goal of reading 50 books this year. I’m quite a fast reader so this is pretty achievable for me, all I need now is a bookcase to store all my reads in one place instead of scattered everywhere around my flat.
I’m always open to recommendations so let me know your favourite book you read in 2017 below so I can check it out. Mine would have to be Girl on the Train which had me gripped the entire way through. I loved the way the story unfolded with the suspense upheld until the very last page. If you love a psychological thriller full of mystery and tension then this one is definitely for you.

2017 was the year I invested in my DSLR with a new lens. I totally copied Alice but after seeing the quality of her photos and how easy it was to use I knew this was the one for me. I picked up the Canon EOS 1300D Twin Lens Starter Kit which comes with a standard 18-55mm Lens as well as the 50mm lens. I’ve really enjoyed playing around with my new camera and although I am still a complete novice, I am excited to keep practising and developing my skills this year.
I picked myself up a teach yourself photography book the last time I was in town so I am hoping after a lot of playing round I will finally be able to start shooting in manual mode. I’m also planning on trying one of the Jessops Photography Level 1 Course as I have read some really good reviews and I think this would be really beneficial to me.
We live in a digital world now where it is so easy to snap a couple of pics and upload them to social media or a website etc, but I also like to have a printed copy for my scrapbook. I recently signed up to Free Prints which is an app that lets you print 45 photos for free each month and all you need to do is cover the postage. If you do sign up use my invite code tnoreen3 and we both receive 5 bonus prints.
After a last minute decision to move out of our flat, a rather inconveniently placed holiday and Christmas its safe to say the credit cards have taken a beating. I am not proud of the financial position that I find myself in now but I have managed to clear a massive chunk of debt before, and I am determined to do it again now. Luckily this time there’s two of us to share the burden and although the next year or so is going to be tight, with a tight budget and lots of overtime, I just know we can come out the other side in a much better position.
If you have any budgeting tips, or tips for debt repayment then please send them my way as we need all the help we can get right about now. Although I am quite daunted by how much we have accumulated and how quickly, I am even more determined to clear it as quickly as possible so that this time next year I am in a much better position financially.
So there we have it these are my resolutions for the new year, let me know what yours are and we can support each what I hope will be a successful 2018.
