There’s something about wearing nail polish which just makes me feel so put together and with it. Honestly one coat of colour and I step outside feeling like I’m ready to take on the world. Working in hospitality for so many years meant that I basically chipped my nails within the first 3.5 seconds of arriving at work and so I never used to bother. Now that I work in an office and spend 85% of my time behind a computer, my nails are stronger, healthier and enjoying a change every now and again.
Duo chrome polishes are my absolute jam. Years ago when Rimmel released their 4 polish range I rushed out and bought every shade. Fast forward to now and my very well loved polishes have seen better days and while I’m transitioning into a cruelty free beauty regime and I’ve been on the hunt for some feline friendly substitute’s. That’s where Barry M comes in, offering up a ton of different finishes and formulas for under £5. Barry M was started in 1982 and boast a strict no animal testing policy on finished products and any ingredients used within their products. They have a wide range of products suitable for vegans and vegetarians and they have new offerings every month of innovative formulas and on trend pieces.
This year saw the launch of their mermaid inspired Under the Sea 4 polish range. 2018 seems to be the year of the mermaid with a lot of brands bringing out colourful and vibrant ranges as an ode to the mystical creature. Barry M have also introduced a holographic range of lip toppers, eyeshadows and polishes, but more about them another day. Described as a treasure trove of aquatic wonders with each shade reminiscent of sparkling ocean waves and shimmering iridescent scales.
The Under the Sea range features 4 shades: Angelfish, Jellyfish, Butterflyfish and Pinktail. Each shade is formulated with their colour-shifting, two-toned formula, with a unique combination of colour and shimmer. The duo-chrome technology is noticeable from the bottle and I was delighted to see how each shade came out on the nails. They can be worn on their own or on top of other polishes to really pop the iridescent shimmers running throughout.
They glide onto the nails with ease and dry so quickly I was super impressed. They initially are quite sheer but you can build up 2-3 coats for a gorgeous opaque finish. I like the fact that they are quite muted so you can build them up very easily depending on your taste. This range is so on trend and each and every shade is beautiful in its own right. The finish is a gorgeous, glossy pearlescent sheen which you could rock from day to night. As with all Barry M polishes with 3 coats and a top coat these are so durable lasting for 7 days with minimal chips. These are perfect for the upcoming festival season and Summer holidays.
Angelfish is a peachy nude with silver iridescent running through it, the most delicate out of the collection and the most natural for everyday wear. This is my least favourite from the collection as I like my polish to stand out a bit. If you like something more natural and less in your face then this is the shade for you. Jellyfish is my favourite with a lavender polish shifting between turquoise and pink shimmer. This looked completely different on to how I was expecting and has fast become my go to polish. Butterfly fish is sky blue with the most gorgeous pink, orange and purple duo chrome running through it. This is definitely the most mermaid-esque of the collection and the most vibrant. Finally, Pinktail is a salmon pink with gold iridescent running through it. I don’t own anything quite like this colour as I tend to avoid pinks but with the orange and gold this is so unique and reminds me slightly of a warm sunset reflecting on the nails.
If you fancy picking up a shade or two from the range head to Superdrug who are currently offering 3 for 2 across theie entire make up range.
