Usually when there is a massive buzz surrounding a new brand or product I like to wait a few months before picking anything up so I can see what other people think and read a lot of reviews. Last year Canadian born skin-care brand Deciem took the beauty world by storm releasing The Ordinary into the wider market. Previously you could only pick up the products on their website and you had to act fast because these babies were usually sold out with a waitlist longer than the Great Wall of China! Soon their products started popping up on the likes of ASOS, Sephora, Cult Beauty etc. and beauty junkies alike started going into a meltdown.
I was drawn to the brand because of it’s no fuss packaging and purse friendly prices but after a brief peruse I could see I would need to do some more research into what each product does and what skin concern this is suitable for. First I headed to their website to check out if they were cruelty free and I was pleasantly surprised to find they are and their products are not available in mainland China. Secondly I noted all of their products are free from parabens, sulphates, mercury and animal oils as well as a number of other potentially harmful ingredients – double win! Now I just needed to work out what I wanted to try first.
I already have quite an extensive skincare collection so I was in no rush to pick up anything. I knew I wanted to try the foundations but aside from that I didn’t really have a clue about what else I wanted or need to try. Then I noticed QVC they were offering a 4 piece foundation collection featuring both foundations, a silicone primer and a Hyaluronic serum – perfecto! As Hyaluronic acid is one of the only ones I regularly use this was right up my street and it came with a couple of quid savings too which was just a bonus. So let’s dive into a bit more detail about each product.
Hyaluronic Acid 2% B5
A water based serum containing a lightweight hydrating formula enriched with three different hyaluronic compounds and Vitamin B5. The formula includes three forms of hyaluronic acid with varying molecular weight which offers multi-level hydration and visible plumping to your skin. If your skin is a bit lack lustre and dehydrated or you’re suffering from fine lines or early signs of ageing, then this is the product for you. I use this day and night before my moisturiser to deliver intense, long-lasting moisture which smooths my skin and leaves it feeling hydrated and bouncy. This is an everyday staple to my routine and an affordable, cruelty free substitute for my beloved hydraluron serum.
High-Adherence Silicone Primer
Silicone primers are my favourite as I just find they work best with my skin. This pore reducing formula acts as a matte and blurring base for make up which adheres for longer and hydrates the skin. The formula is lightweight and soaks into the skin fairly quickly without leaving a greasy residue. This creates the optimum base for makeup application, leaving your skin looking flawless with that airbrushed finish we are all so desire. The formula is alcohol and oil free leaving your complexion fresh and shine free as well as reducing any imperfections.
A lightweight medium coverage foundation, in 21 shades with clever undertone identifiers for pink, red, yellow and neutral undertones. The formulation means the product looks natural on the skin leaving a semi matte finish without settling into any fine lines. It also features SPF 15 so this is perfect for the hotter months when you don’t want to have layers of product on the skin. This is my go to everyday foundation and I have nearly used the entire bottle I love it that much. I have worn this all day without needing to top up or reapply and my skin still looks flawless 8 hours later. It’s going to take a lot to kick this out of my foundation top spot.
A highly blendable full coverage foundation, again in 21 versatile shades with clever undertone identifiers. Although I like this foundation this is my least favourite out of the 4 products as I prefer a more medium coverage and this is slightly fuller than I would normally go for. I tend to reach for this if I am heading out for a long time and I won’t be able to remove my makeup for 12 hours or more as this lasts really well on the skin. It doesn’t crease or appear cakey as the day wears on and the it gives the skin a natural, smooth, semi-matt finish. It blends into the skin really easily leaving a flawless, non-oily finish. It’s perfect for longer days or for occasions where a heavier base is necessary.
Overall, I am loving everything I have tried so far. I also love how the whole range features research-based, innovative and active-ingredient driven products which won’t break the bank. I will 100% be repurchasing the serum foundation and I want to pick up a few more skincare bits including the glycolic acid toning solution and the caffeine solution. Shop the post below!
