Postcards from Barcelona

Barcelona is the perfect destination for a quick city break or a long weekend. There’s a little something for everyone whether your looking for clubbing until the sun comes up, relaxing on the beach and topping up that tan, shopping till you absolutely drop or exploring the incredible history and architecture this beautiful city has to offer. It`s been at the top of my Mum’s wish-list forever but after my Dad visited a few years ago and got pick-pocketted it`s unfortunately never materialised.

Much to my mum’s dismay, me and Gavin managed to bag a fantastic deal on flights during the Summer sales travelling midweek for a couple of nights. We spent 4 glorious days in this incredible city and I was blown away with how much I fell in love with the people, the architecture and the way of life. We visited early November where it was still sunny but there was a crisp breeze so you needed a light jacket with you. A bonus about visiting later in the year meant we missed the obscenely hot weather and also the masses of tourists who flock to the city every year. We headed to all the must see places including Sagrada Familia, Park Güell, Casa Batlló and Barri Gotic. There really is so much to see, it’s the kind of place you could visit again and again and find different places to explore every single time. I thoroughly enjoyed our time in the city, the only downfall in visiting midweek meant that we missed out on the Magic Fountain of Mountjuïc – more of a reason to head back.

One of the main reasons a lot of people head to Barcelona is to check out the work of Antoni Gaudí in all it’s glory. I have to admit, before visiting I didn’t have much knowledge of his work and nor was I that fussed about seeing it, but, as soon as I saw the Sagrada Familia I completely fell in love and my obsession began. I’ve since then been bookmarking the places that he’s worked on and designed so that I can hopefully head out and explore them all one day. Top of my list is Casa Vicens which was opened to the general public late last year following a restoration project, I’m itching to go and to be honest, it’s only a matter of time before I book another trip to head out and explore again. Until then I am going to relive my last trip through all the photos I took and today I am going to share with you some of my favourites.
