Colour Pop Haul & First Impressions

Over the years I have followed a lot of brands who I’ve been desperate to try but have been exclusively stocked in the US. One brand I have been desperate to try for years after seeing one of my favourite Youtubers Kathleen Lights raving about them is ColourPop. As soon as they announced they were offering international shipping I knew it was only a matter of time before I raided the store and picked up some bits to try for myself. It was only last month when I received my first full pay from my new job that I decided to bite the bullet and place my first order. I struggled to narrow down exactly what to try first so I opted for a selection of different eye and lip products to try out the various formulas.

You need to spend $50 to qualify for free shipping otherwise it costs $9.99 so you are better off waiting until you have a couple of bits you want before splurging to save on postage costs. One thing I do love about Colour Pop is that unlike most US sites, they include VAT on all orders shipped to the UK so you don’t have to worry about collecting from the post office and paying the £8 handling fee Royal Mail charge. My order took just over a week to arrive and everything was securely packaged inside the box. In total I picked up 9 items which after using a $5 off code came to $79.80 including VAT (£63.60).

LIPS

I actually picked up four different formulas on the lip front because the prices were super affordable. In the end I opted for:

  • Crème Lux Lipstick in 27 – deep plummy beige $7
  • Crème Lux Lipstick in Hello Stranger – deepened burgundy $7
  • Lippie Stix in Thousand Percent – rich chocolate cherry $5.50
  • Ulta Metallic Lip in Flipside – metallic black cherry $6
  • Ultra Glossy Lip in Believe Me – rich sangria with violet glitter $6

Out of the different formulas the lipsticks come out on top with lippie stix’s coming in at a close second. I did pick up a lot of rich, deep colours for Autumn/ Winter because they suit my skin tone best and out of all the shades I chose, most of them were how I imagined. Believe Me was a lot more purple than I would have liked and really did not suit me at all so I won’t be hanging onto that one, but the high shine formula is gorgeous and I was surprised how non-sticky the formula was. Flipside has a very similar formula which sits comfortably on the lips delivering on pigmentation and longevity.

I’ve alway seen people raving about the lippie stix’s so I knew I needed to pick up one to try. Eventually I decided on Thousand Percent which is the perfect rich cherry. This colour is absolutely stunning and I was blown away with the pigmentation of this little stick. This has been my go to for everyday wear as it is so comfortable on the lips and lasts all day with barely any touch up needed. The two lipstick shades I picked up are very similar with one slightly more purple than the other. They are creamy matte’s which glide onto the lips with ease and dry down to a gorgeous finish. These are super hydrating and don’t dry out the lips at all and they last really well. I did find these fade a little patchy but because they are so hydrating you can touch up during the day without them flaking or feeling cakey.

EYES

At the very top of my list to try were the Super Shock Shadows which I have seen hundreds of rave reviews about. In the end I settled on the Summer Solstice quad ($18) which contained the shades;

  • Lightning Bug – golden copper with silver, gold & pink glitter
  • Noontide – deep metallic chocolate brown
  • Summer Side – matte rich red brown
  • Sundance – soft metallic peach

Unfortunately when they arrived Lightning Bug eyeshadow had smashed during transit and completely separated from the pan. After looking online I’ve seen that this is a common problem when ordering to the UK which is very disappointing. I have since managed to smoosh the product back into the pan and get some use out of it but I wanted to show how the shadow originally arrived for the purpose of this post. The formula of these shadows is not like something I have come across before as they are quite spongey and almost feel like cream shadows to start with. They are super pigmented and last on the eyes all night plus they are super easy to blend for a novice like me. I pop Noontide in the crease, then use Summer Side all over the eye with a dab of Sundance in the crease to create the perfect warm, autumnal look.

I also wanted to pick up a couple of their liquid eye shadows to see how they compare to the Stila products. I opted for two of the Supernova Shadows in: Firecracker ($7) – a cool-toned burgundy with gold duochrome and silver, gold, and green glitter; and From the Valley ($7) – lavender with a pink/blue flip. Firecracker swatched beautifully with a metallic finish as oppose to being heavily glittery. I did find that it dried very quickly so you have to be quick when applying but once it has dried down, this bad boy will not budge. From the Valley is a stunning colour but unfortunately the formula of this shadow was patchy and crumbly with barely any pigmentation. I’ve seen mixed reviews about these shadows and it seems to just be hit or miss which is a real shame as I love anything duo-chrome.

Finally on a last minute whim I picked up one of the jelly shadows to try and boy am I glad I did, as this turned out to be my favourite product from the entire haul. Half moon ($8) is a duo-chrome plum with a frosty green and blue flip. This formula really packs a punch and delivers intense pigmentation with just one swipe as you can see from the swatches below. A little goes a long way and there is no creasing or fall out and this stayed put on my lids without budging all evening. I am completely in love with the shade I picked up and the formula so I will definitely be picking up a couple more of these.

From L-R; Jelly Much Shadow in Half Moon, Supernova Liquid Shadow in Firecracker & From the Valley
From L-R; Lux Lipstick in 27 & Hello Stranger, Lippie Stix in Thousand Percent, Ultra Metallic Lip in Flipside & Ultra Glossy Lip in Flipside
From L-R; Super Shock Eyeshadow in Sundance, Summer Side & Noontide

Overall I was a bit disappointed with the two products which arrived damaged but I absolutely loved everything else I tried and I couldn’t get over how affordable the products are. I did email customer service to complain about the two damaged products but as this was an international order they could only offer me a coupon code to the value of the damaged items. Although not the best outcome it wouldn’t have been cost effective for me to send the items back and now it just means I’ve got some money to put towards my next order. I cannot wait to pick up some of the jelly shadows to add to my collection.
