A Grosvenor Casino VIP Experience

The night is drawing to a close, the clubs begin to wind down and even the local chicken ranch starts settling down for the night but –  you`re not ready to stop the party so what do you do? We’ve all been in this position and I think for most of us the answer has always been casino! Now I’ll level with you. I don’t think I have ever set foot in a casino sober until recently when I was invited down to Grosvenor Casino* with Southampton Bloggers to try out their new menu alongside a learn to play session with one of their experience croupiers.

Casino’s for me have always been more of a last resort as opposed to chosen destination so I was intrigued to pop along and see the what the score was at a more reasonable hour. We were greeted by the welcoming team and Conor on arrival and treated to a selection of cocktails from the menu. The first surprise was how busy the casino was for 7pm on a Tuesday with pretty much every seat in the bar area filled. The second surprise was the intimate dining space located towards the back of the casino hosting the perfect spot for a romantic meal for two or a catch up with the girls.

Considering our location for the evening I expected a simple menu – more like pub classics such as burger and chips, hot dogs and fish and chips. Now Grosvenor do offer this on their Poker menu but in the restaurant itself they also offer a full a la carte menu with a wide range of dishes. There is literally something for everyone from steamed sea bass fillets to premium cut steaks. We were all completely blown away with the large selection on offer and so overwhelmed with choices.

For starters there was a selection of hand picked dishes from all around the world with all the classic favourites. The nachos, chicken wings and calamari were firm favourites as well as the halloumi and chorizo skewers which I opted for. When it came to mains I decided to play it safe and opted for a classic 10oz rib eye steak. All of their steaks are served with sautéed button mushrooms, cherry tomatoes and skin on fries. The steaks are also accompanied with your choice of seasoning, steak sauce and wedge dressing. I opted for the rosemary and garlic seasoning which wasn’t too strong just adding a subtle flavour to the buttery steak with the classic peppercorn sauce. I was so impressed with the presentation of the food but also by the quality of the steak itself. I find the best way to judge a restaurant is on their steak because this is such a simple dish to prepare but it is also so easy to get it wrong. The meat was succulent with barely any gristle or fat so you could tell this was a decent cut. I have already booked in a date night to go back with Gavin on a Thursday where you can get 2 steaks and a bottle of wine for £25!

A small but indulgent dessert menu is on offer with a handful of dishes to choose from. I chose to fill up on steak and chips leaving no room for dessert but the salted caramel chocolate roulade looked utterly divine and I didn’t hear any complaints from the girls. After dinner it was time for the poker and blackjack learn to play sessions. Unfortunately this is where my night ended due to the ridiculous train times but if you head to Southampton Bloggers Instagram you can catch everything on their highlights. Paul really looked after the girls, teaching them all the little tricks of the trade and they were all raving about how much fun they had once the night was done.

It’s such a shame that I had to miss the end of the event but we all had such a fab evening that we are planning on heading back for a cocktail and so the girls can teach me all the tips they learnt. A huge thank you to Grosvenor for hosting us for the evening and changing all our perceptions of the casino.
