Fenty Beauty by Rihanna

One of the most anticipated beauty launches of 2017 has hands down got to be Fenty Beauty! After years of experimenting with makeup, Rihanna recognised a clear gap in the market for products designed for all skin tones and types and so she created Fenty Beauty to fill this void. Her line has been designed to include all women, championing possibly the most diverse campaign seen in the beauty industry. Queen Ri-Ri certainly bought the goods in her debut collection dropping 40 shades of foundation, show stopping highlights and creamy contour sticks in a wide range of shades. I started mentally adding everything to my shopping bag everytime spoilers were released.

On launch day I eagerly headed to the Harvey Nichols website ready to bag some goodies. After being placed in a queue I decided to have a quick peruse of the official website to see if I could have a proper look at the products before buying. I was able to easily browse all the products and even add them to my basket without any problems whatsoever, its very clear they had anticipated there would be a high demand for this line and had adequately compensated for it. As soon as it was my turn on Harvey Nich’s I popped everything in my bag and checked out without a single glitch and all before my morning cuppa too I might add. I have to say it was refreshing to say the least to be able to not only browse the products but shop them without queuing for hours only to be greeted with sold out notifications everywhere. More praise for Queen Ri-Ri on that note for making the whole collection so easily accessible for everyone.

Product wise I knew I wanted to pick up the foundation as I have been after a new one for a while now but I was unsure about what else to get. I actually ended up with:

Pro Filt’r Soft Soft Matte Longwear Foundation 370 £26

Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer £16

Match Stix Shimmer Skinstick in Yacht Life £21

Killawatt Freestyle Highlight Duo (Ginger Binge & Moscow Mule) £26

I was very dubious about colour matching online but I knew there wouldn’t be an opportunity for me to be colour matched in store, so I used the online colour matcher and opted for shade 370 which is actually pretty perfect for me. The foundation is medium to full coverage and is easily buildable. It has a matte finish but isn’t drying on the skin and it leaves your face with a flawless, smooth finish. I found this lasted several hours on my dry skin and it felt lightweight whilst hiding any small blemishes. I usually apply one pump all over before blending out and then applying a second coat. All in in for a high end foundation I think this is fairly priced and I love the sleek frosted glass packaging.

The universal gloss bomb lip luminizer was the next thing that caught my eye described as “the unicorn of nudes that looks good on everyone”. This is a rosey, nude brown with warm undertones and subtle pearlescent shimmer running through it. I fully expected this to be one of those really sticky formulas but I was pleasantly surprised that it is in fact quite the opposite. This non-sticky gloss is hydrating and comfortable to wear on the lips. The moderate shimmer in the gloss and light colour pay off means this can be worn on its own through the day or over the top of other lip products. If you`re not a fan of scented products then I would advise against this as it has a very sweet and fruity aroma, but I personally love this scent.

Its safe to say I am like a magpie and drawn to sparkly, shiny things, so it came as no surprise that I was instantly attracted to the highlighters. I opted for one of the duo compacts featuring two shades Ginger Binge (a lighter soft copper sheen) and Moscow Mule (a deeper supercharged copper shimmer). I love the cream-powder hybrid which is highly pigmented formula leaving a high shine. The metallic sheen is long lasting on the skin and the powders themselves are super blendable. I also picked up Yacht Life which is a glimmering peachy pink with warm undertones in the match stix formula. Again I was surprised with how creamy the formula was and also by how blendable this was. The product was lightweight and didn’t drag on the skin and overall left a luminous glow which is much more wearable.

Overall, I love everything I picked up and I can’t wait pick up some more bits from the collection. It is also worth noting that it Fenty beauty is cruelty free as their website states “We never test products or ingredients on animals, nor do we allow suppliers or affiliates to conduct testing on our behalf”. As I have recently switched to cruelty free beauty this is like music to my ears and I can’t wait to pick up some more pieces from her collection.

Have you tried anything from the Fenty beauty range?
