Every year when Christmas comes around brands universally pull out all the stops to entice you into buying into their collections and this year is no exception. Having recently transitioned into cruelty free beauty I reduced my collection to the bare bones and so I’ve picked up a few bits and pieces to replace things I no longer have. Although I am still having no shortage of eyeshadow pallets, when I saw Stila were releasing not one but two sets of the liquid eyeshadow’s I just knew I had to pick them up.
I’ve seen everyone raving about these since they were released and I have been dying to get my hands on them but I wanted to give them a real go to see if I liked them before splurging £23 on a single shade. I am a still a complete novice when it comes to makeup so a product that is easy to use with little to no fuss is right up my street. I opted first for the Written in the Stars Glitter and Glow (£25) set first which contains three of the best shades from their magnificent metals collection.
Written in the Stars includes:
Diamond Dust (Sheer silver with multi colour glitter) 2.25ml
Kitten Karma (Champagne with silver and copper glitter) 2.25ml
Smoky Storm (Light pewter with silver glitter) 2.25ml
This set is perfect for the festive season with a silver, pewter and champagne shade with a pearly glitter finish. Made for the magpies among us, this set certainly packs a punch and if you are pigment fan then you will absolutely love these. The shades can be used on their own or over the top of other shadow to finish the look with a sequin like shine. Unlike powder glitters, there is no fall out at all and these dry quickly so there is no transfer onto the lid. If you love glitter but hate the mess that comes with loose powders then these are definitely for you. I was pleasantly surprised at how pigmented the base colours of these shades were and how creamy they are on the eye. Armed with a good primer they last long into the night which is exactly what we need now that Christmas party season is upon us.
After falling in love with the formula and easy to use nature of these products I decided to treat myself to the larger set of the liquid eye shadows which included three more glitter and glow shades plus three of the brand new shimmer and glow shades which don’t launch until Spring next year. The Eye for Elegance (£45) liquid eye shadow set includes:
Peachy Sheen (Sheer peachy beige with silver and gold glitter)
Smoldering Satin (Deep tan with silver glitter)
Next to Notte (Vibrant deep red with pink glitter)
Kitten (Shimmering nude pink)
Grace (Shimmering rose gold)
Twig (Shimmering chestnut brown)
I love the glitter shades but the shimmer shades are more me and I cannot wait until they launch the full collection of these to see what other shades are released. They contain no glitter and have a more metallic, shimmery finish. I find these shades more wearable than the glitter’s and Twig has become a firm favourite which I cannot stop wearing. Again there is no transfer onto the lid and you can apply these straight onto the eye with the small applicator and then blend out with a fluffy brush. I think the overall shade range in the second set is a lot more wearable for the daytime but can easily be cranked up a notch ready for a night on the town.
Overall, I think both these sets are excellent value for money with a decent amount of product. You are able to really test the products out and get a feel for the shades and the formulas before choosing a single shade in the larger size. For basically the same price as one full time shadow you can try three deluxe size samples first. I like that they included the shimmer shades in the larger set as it means you can try these out before they hit the stores next year and – spoiler – they are a must on any beauty lovers radar. I picked mine up in store from Marks and Spencer but be quick as I am pretty sure these will be a complete sell out.
If you`re a massive lover of the liquid eye shadows from Stila then be sure to check out the Vault which launches tomorrow on the Sephora website featuring 12 full sized liquid eye shadows including two brand new never before seen shades in the glitter and glow formula. I can imagine these will sell out pretty quickly and I am super jealous of anybody who will be opening up one of these bad boys come Christmas day.
Have you tried any of Stila liquid eye shadows? What are your thoughts?
